Pictured above are our current, and some of the past herd sires of
Maple Shade Farm
All of our bucks hold a special
place at our farm.
They have all helped to shape our herd.
We are very selective when we choose bucks for our herd, or when we raise buck kids for sale prospects. Confirmation, good feet, hardiness, parasite resistance are all very important when selecting a breeding buck
We want a buck that will produce kids with lower birth and fast growth rates.
This helps to ensure easier deliveries for our does.
Milk production is hereditary, so we select bucks who come from high milking genetics.
Some of the best advice I was ever given..
"Buy from a breeder who is raising goats the way
you plan to raise them"
If you plan to raise goats on pasture and browse
with minimal grain -
Do not buy goats that have never been on pasture and only ever been fed from a grain pan.
One of our first registered bucks was OHL Aaron. He set the bar very high with his personality. His demeanor never changed no matter the season.
While we know that not every buck will be like him. We do measure many to him. We expect our bucks to be respectful, and able to handled. Aggression is not tolerated.
Temperament is passed on to offspring. We choose to only keep and breed with bucks who exhibit the qualities we want to pass on
